Names, names and more names .....

 Some ideas & information to help when choosing a name for your Golden furry family memeber.

I also refer to our Goldens as our BFFF's (Best Furry Friends Forever)

I sometimes get questions about names for Golden Retrievers, so I thought it would be nice to supply some information that may help individuals pick a name that suits their Golden family member (aka. BFFF's).

When choosing an ACK registered name for your Golden, you can be as unique as you would like.  I allow our puppy owners to use our kennel name, Golden Hills , but do not require our puppies be registered as "Golden Hills". 

Here is an example of a dog's registered name:  Double Pipe Creeks Buttercup (this is the registered name for my BFFF, Buttercup)

Her call name: Buttercup          (what we call her around the house etc... is the Goldens "call name")

So, the registered name is how the name of the dog will be displayed on AKC doccuments and the call name is the name we used when talking to the dog.

Some may ask, "How did we come up with this name"? 

Well, at the time we were lucky enough to open our heart and home to Buttercup and Scooby, we were living in our old home, which was situated beside a creek named "Double Pipe Creek".

Once we moved to our current home, that is when we decided on Golden Hills, since our home is located on a Hill.

Our names represent where we lived at the time the dogs joined our family.  Buttercup and Scooby are the only ones that do not have Golden Hills in their registerd name.  Well, that is not entirely true, somehow AKC registered Stitch as Glode Hills Stitch????  Not sure how this error occured, since I do now how to spell Golden, so the best bet is to register your dog online and hopefully you will eliminate another persons data entry errors such as "Glode" etc...

What should your Golden's registered and call name be?

So many choices, but you will find the one that fits your Golden the best.  Just do a little brainstorming, ask friends, family and even strangers in the grocery store!  After all that brainstorming and voting you will decide on a name that is perfect!

Here are some ideas that might help when brainstorming, and feel free to use any of the ones suggested.  These are just the tip of the iceberg to come up with registered and call names for your BFFF's!  And, call names don't have to be anything in their registered name.  But, usually their call name comes from their registered name.  If you notice all of our dog's names are cartoon characters or children's fairy tail characters. 

Names that coordinate with their Golde Fur color.  Since Goldens can come in many different shades & hues of golden color, I broke them down into light golden, golden and dark golden. And really any of them could be used for any of the shades.

Light Golden Fur Color Ideas: 

• Sugar Cookie - call name - Sugar or Cookie
• Glimmering Sea Salt  - call name Sea, Salt or Glimmer
• Santa's Snowflake - call name Snow or Snowflake, and I guess even Santa
• Frosty's Button Nose - call name Frosty or Button
• Barbie's Blond Beauty - call name Barbie or Beauty

• Golden Ray (call name - Ray)
• Blooming Blossoms  (call name Blossom)
• Molsons Golden - call name Molson or Mo (This is one from one of our puppy owners from a previous litter, that I thought was cute.)
• Miller Light - call name Miller
• Sun Burst - call name Sun or Sunny
• Angel's Gold Halo - call name Angel or Halo

Dark Golden Fur Color Ideas:

• Golden Spice - call name Spice or Spicy
• Sherlock Holmes Discovers Gold - call name Sherlock or Holmes
• Beautiful Sunny Sky - call name Sunny, Sky or Beauty
